If you’re looking to purchase a pair of period undies, there’s now another affordable option on the market, with Uniqlo launching its own range made with its trademarked AIRism fabric.

Period underwear has been available in most Australian supermarkets for a while now. Earlier this year, Choice tested 10 different brands of period undies and officially declared the shift from marginal to mainstream. It found all 10 brands of absorbent undies generally performed well, which might have been a confidence boost for anyone yet to try the underwear for themselves.

Uniqlo’s period undies come in a high-waisted style, available in six sizes and four different colours: black, brown, dark green and purple. The AIRism fabric – which is made from nylon, elastane and polyester – is said to be comfy and silky soft. And the absorbent layer can hold up to 30 to 40 millilitres of blood – the equivalent of three medium-flow tampons.

Like other period undies, they are machine-washable and the range is quick-drying with an odour-control layer. Uniqlo’s water-resistant layer extends to the waist to keep you dry and comfortable, too. Plus, the Japanese retailer offers matching wireless bras in each colour.

They’re part of the brand’s innerwear collection, which includes first bras, wireless bras and maternity items. Each pair of period underwear is $29.90 and you can find them in all Uniqlo stores and online from today.
