After pausing the event in 2020, Western Australia Gourmet Escape will be back in full flight this year, running from November 17 to 21 across Margaret River, Perth, the Swan Valley and Rottnest Island.

Since it began in 2012, the festival has played host to world-famous chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Rene Redzepi and Nigella Lawson, with the 2021 instalment set to celebrate the brightest culinary stars in Australia and some of Western Australia’s most spectacular spots – from the idyllic Rottnest Island, to secluded beaches and towering forests of the south west. Expect unconventional food and wine pairings, delicious fine dining experiences, sunset DJ sets, a rooftop disco, and a showcase of new advances in sustainability and other evolutions as the festival shines a light on some of WA’s top producers.

Rottnest Sunset (November 18)

For the first time ever, Gourmet Escape will host an event on Perth’s island paradise: Rottnest Island. Nestled on the north-east shore of Rotto, Pinky’s Beach Club at Discovery Rottnest Island will host a night of pop-up dining to remember. As you take in sunset views of Pinky Beach and Bathurst Lighthouse from the deck, you’ll be treated to a leisurely al fresco seafood feast from crowd favourites Rick Stein and Colin Fassnidge. Kicking off the festival on Thursday afternoon, the event includes ferry transfers from Fremantle, or stay the night with glamping and other accommodation on the island.

AGWA Rooftop, Wine, Dine & Disco (November 20 and 21)

The name pretty much says it all: here, you’ll dance the night away to a disco soundtrack on the Art Gallery of Western Australia’s new rooftop, Elevate. Billed as “fun twist on sustainability”, this sundown boogie held in the Perth CBD includes progressive cooking techniques and innovative cocktails. You’ll get a welcome drink on arrival (created by Sam Payne, Emma Farrelly and Curly Haslam-Coates) and sustainably made canapés throughout the night, with body-moving DJ sets by the likes of Demeeela (Splendour in the Grass) pumping until late. And the views of the Perth cityscape will simply be a bonus by that point.
