Pretty in pink Mount Lawley cafe Soho Lane is handing out free coffee this Friday to celebrate its first six months of business. The deal is for 6oz coffees (limited to one per person and milk upgrades are extra) and available from 7am until 12pm that day. Expect the cafe’s custom Soho blend by Micrology Coffee Roasters, with notes of chocolate and praline. While you’re there, treat yourself to one of the fresh pastries, or dine-in for lunch and try their Soho waffles with fried chicken.
Red hot cocktails
Head into the basement at Long Chim for a gin masterclass with a difference this month. Long Chim mixologist Eoin Kenny and Mitch Gurrin from Archie Rose Distilling Co are going back in time to show guests the old tradition of heating gin-based cocktails, with a red-hot poker known as a loggerhead. The instrument was crafted by blacksmiths and designed to be heated by burning flames and then put into the alcohol to up the temperature. Enjoy a hot gin and tonic cocktail on arrival, followed by your choice of drink from eight hot classics. Tickets are $40 and include spicy Long Chim snacks, two cocktails and a theatrical history lesson.
A beer-matched dinner at Double Rainbow
Asian-inspired Northbridge diner Double Rainbow, which is located within The Rechabite on William Street, is hosting a dinner on Sunday July 18 paired with beers by Hong Kong based craft brewer Gweilo. The five-course dinner by head chef Danny Sanchez starts with Double Rainbow’s crab siew mai (dumplings) followed by fried chicken bao, then steamed snapper, lamb shoulder, and mango sorbet to finish. Each dish is matched with one of Gweilo’s brews, including a Strawberry Green Tea Berliner and a Rocky Road Ice Cream Sour. Tickets are $99 per person. Book here..
A winter feast with Fervor
Neighbourhood Events Co’s Winter Feast returns this year with headliner Paul Iskov of native food pop-up Fervor. Iskov will be lending his knowledge of indigenous ingredients to collaborations with Monsterella Pizza and Kuld Creamery so expect wood-fired pizzas and gelato with a native Australian twist. There’s also an impressive West Australian line-up of suppliers for wine and beer tastings, including South By South West, LS Merchants, Mr Barval, Vine collective and Shelter Brewing Co. To celebrate the lifting of Phase 5 restrictions and venues returning to full capacity this weekend, ARK Group, which owns venues such as Market Grounds in the city and The Peach Pit in Scarborough, is pouring everything on tap for half price on Saturday July 17. Expect half price tapped beer, ciders and tap cocktails between 11am and 6pm.
