Cooking a seafood dish for dinner requires some planning, especially on weeknights – namely, making sure you finish work on time and can drive to the fishmonger before it closes. The chain supermarkets are always an option, but you might have to gamble on quality.
Seafood specialist Steve Costi has a solution. His long-running family business, Steve Costi’s Seafood, has launched a new online store with deliveries of fresh, high-quality fish and seafood across metropolitan Sydney.
That means you can easily add whole fish and fillets (including barramundi, blue eye cod, snapper, ocean trout and Tasmanian salmon) to your cart, plus Sydney rock oysters, western rock lobster, Moreton Bay bug, blue swimmer crab, cooked tiger prawns, scallops in the half-shell, cleaned and tenderised octopus, black mussels and more. There's also seasonal sides and condiments from Beerenberg.
Ready-made meals and pretty sashimi platters are available from a team led by chef James Wallis, ex-head chef at Indu and The Tilbury. They include salmon Wellington, fish tacos, seafood lasagne, fish pies and battered fish with potato scallops, while the platters include sashimi-grade salmon, tuna, kingfish, scampi and scallops, plus salmon caviar and black lumpfish.
Steve Costi opened his first store in the David Jones Food Hall on Market Street in Sydney back in 1985 (his father established a fish shop in Lakemba almost three decades earlier). His reputation for quality, variety and a focus on local produce helped him expand – now there are more than a dozen Steve Costi’s Seafood stores in Sydney, with more in Newcastle and Melbourne.
