FBi Social provided Sydney’s music lovers with a gig hub for more than three years. After it had its final party, Kings Cross-goers were left with a Friday-night discord. However Bandroom – the replacement space on the second floor of the Kings Cross Hotel – has repaired that despair. The gig space remains the same. The iconic Coca Cola sign still shines its eerie crimson onto performers. There is still a dank, grungy vibe throughout. Best of all: the sound remains loud enough to keep your ears ringing all night long.

Bandroom operates in a similar way to FBi Social, showing live acts each Friday and Saturday night. There is no prerequisite for genre or popularity. The space has also become available throughout the week to Sydney’s music students. Elliot Solomon from Kings Cross Hotel says, “We thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to help nurture local talent by working with local music schools and organisations to allow their students to perform in our incredible space.” This decision will mean that young blood at AIM, Sydney Conservatorium and other institutions will be able to try their hand (or lungs, feet, upper body strength – depending on the instrument) at playing in a venerated performance space.
