From its leafy outdoor terrace, Potts Point restaurant and bar The Butler easily affords one of Sydney’s best CBD vistas. In fact, some travel here simply to sit and watch the city blush pink and orange as the afternoon sun dips down, espresso Martini in hand. Others, meanwhile, come for the contemporary menu of Ibero-American cuisine in the breezy dining room; decked out with botanical wallpaper, high ceilings and wicker furniture.

Iberian America comprises any nation or territory where Spanish or Portuguese are the main languages spoken. For head chef Amber Doig’s menu, that means market fish crudo, empanadas stuffed with Yucatan-style braised pork, and tacos filled with either duck carnitas or grilled skirt steak to start. Large plates might include roast barramundi fillet or lamb shoulder slow cooked in banana leaf.

On the drinks menu, you’ll find the Margarita served three ways (classic, spicy and seasonal), and two riffs on the espresso Martini (toasted coconut and spiced orange). There’s also a solid list of fruit- and botanical-forward house creations, plus white wine Sangria to share.

Applejack Hospitality (Bopp and Tone, SoCal, The Botanist, Rafi) took ownership of the space in 2014 and named it The Butler in tribute to Butlers Restaurant, a famous celebrity hotspot that occupied the site throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
