The Odd Fellow

In 1877, Fremantle’s mayor – a notorious wine and spirit dealer – built the Oddfellows Hotel. Later renamed the Norfolk because of its location on the street of the same name, the hotel’s basement was subsequently converted into The Odd Fellow bar, in homage to its colonial heritage.

The cavernous drinking hole hosts a laid-back crowd chasing craft beers, cocktails and live music. Reputed as a breeding ground for the eclectic Fremantle music culture, punters can expect to see anyone from jazz musicians to of-the-moment electronic DJs, and local artists spinning their favourite records.

The varied sounds are complemented by a low-lit bar serving more than 300 spirits. A complex Bavarian Black Forrest gin, Monkey47, made with 47 botanicals, can be enjoyed straight up – with flowery, citrusy, sweet and peppery notes.

Rotating taps pour drops from brewers such as Melbourne Bitter, Young Henrys and Feral. House-spiced rums are also a highlight.

The spirit-friendly food menu features American-style mini hot dogs and spicy chicken wings to keep you full well into the night.
